It’s a Royal knockout: the Habibs are off to meet Europe’s Grimaldis

In what might be billed a meeting of two great dynasties, the Habibs are heading off to meet the Grimaldis.

The ruling family of n comedy, the Habibs from Here Come The Habibs, have been nominated for an award at the annual Monte Carlo Television Festival.

The series has been nominated for a Golden Nymph Award in the outstanding comedy series category.

And two of its stars – Darren Gilshenan and Helen Dallimore – have been nominated for outstanding actor and actress in a comedy respectively.

The prestigious festival is held annually in the tiny European principality of Monaco and hosted by Monaco’s ruling family, the Grimaldis.

The festival was founded by Prince Albert II’s father Prince Rainier III, and Albert and his wife, Princess Charlene, host an annual reception for nominees at the Palais Princier de Monaco in Monte Carlo.

But just what they will make of the Habibs is anyone’s guess.

The series follows the clash of cultures when the lottery-winning Habibs move next door to the conservative O’Neills in a posh Sydney suburb.

The series stars Michael Denkha as Fou Fou Habib and Camilla Ah Kin as Mariam Habib, and Darren Gilshenan as Jack O’Neill and Helen Dallimore as Olivia O’Neill.

The festival was founded by Monaco’s former Prince Rainier III, in 1961, who hoped it would “encourage a new art form, in the service of peace and understanding.”

Past nominees include Foxtel’s Wentworth, Ten’s Secrets & Lies, Nine’s Love Child and the ABC drama Anzac Girls and comedy Lowdown.

The winners of the Golden Nymphs will be announced at an awards gala during the festival in June.
